It’s really hard sometimes as you develop as an entrepreneur to understand that it’s OK sometimes to NOT work. In fact, it’s great if you can pull that off. If you have the ability to wake up one morning and say “I’m not going to the office” and your business doesn’t crumble that day while you are gone, you have built your business the right way. There’s one problem with this though…

As entrepreneurs, most of us work, and work, and work, and work. When you launch a start-up, usually the employees you hire also work and work and work. So sometimes it’s very hard for us as entrepreneurs to not come into the office, and not feel guilty for not working that day when all of the other people we have hired and who work very hard for us ARE at work, still working hard.

So what do you do to overcome this??

The best thing to do is to take a step back and remember why you went into business for yourself. It’s likely that part of the reason was to control your own time. After all, true wealth is the ability to do what you want, when you want to. Freedom and flexibility are the true wealth, and once your business is successful financially, it should be your goal to accomplish the later as quickly as possible. So, going back to feeling guilty… DON’T!

Remember, YOU started the business. YOU own the business. And YOU can decide to not work today if you don’t want to.

If you ever take advantage of people, that’s something you can feel guilty for. But simply having your staff continue to do their job, even though you aren’t today, isn’t taking advantage of THEM. You are simply taking advantage of what you have built. And that my friends is a beautiful thing!

So go… take advantage of it! Take a day off. You no doubt deserve it.
