Anyone remember “He-Man”? It was a cartoon from back in the 80’s. One of his main phrases that he said was “I have the power!!!” As we head into the 3rd month of this new year, for some reason that phrase popped into my head….
In January, most people are energized and fixated on creating their “best year yet”. In February, most people are starting to feel bad that they haven’t done the things that they promised themselves that they were going to do in order to make this new year amazing. Our society has this huge upswing in certain things in January, and then typically a “back to reality” in February. Obviously that’s not for everyone out there, but this is just what is typical based on human nature. Once we hit March is when everyone starts realizing they’re failing miserably, and they need to readjust their goals. This doesn’t mean the year is already lost. Start over! Who cares if it’s March and not January! Anyways, I am getting a bit off topic here….
For the last 18 months or so, I have battled. I’ve battled through disagreements with banks. I’ve battled through not listening to my GUT and keeping a manager on board who didn’t end up being the right fit in ANY way, and did more harm than good to my business. I’ve battled pretty much constantly. Not only to achieve my goals, but some days just to get out of bed. …That’s pretty much a normal day for most entrepreneurs though. We battle constantly. Some battles we win, while others we lose. But we get used to the ups and downs. I remember last year at this time, I said to multiple people “2016 was a horrible year. 2017 just has to be better!!” … Yet, here I am going in to March of 2018, and I’m tempted to say the same thing about 2017. Again, that’s human nature. Just because we are generally high performers with extremely high expectations of ourselves, that doesn’t mean we don’t have our off days.
That being said, I took a step back and thought… “What if I did this every year… over and over? What good things would I be missing out on recognizing? Why should I settle for “this next year is going to be great!” when I have the ability to make THIS year and every year great?
So this year, here’s my plan. I’m going to act like every single day is the start of a new year, and I’m going to appreciate each and every day that I’m lucky enough to be on this planet, and privileged enough to control my own destiny. At the end of 2018, I want to look back and say “2018 was amazing. I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings!”
If every day was “New Years Day”, or even March 1st, what changes would you make in order to achieve whatever it is that you want to achieve in life, business, relationships, etc? Whatever those things are, start off each day like a new opportunity to do something leading you towards achieving those things.
We all have the power!
Happy 2018! It’s gunna be a GREAT one!
